Robot Costume

My daughter was on a robot kick for a couple of years and wanted to dress up as one for Halloween. So we would make a costume and get her dressed. She then couldn’t move and then wanted it immediately off. So we always had a backup plan after the first year where we scrambled to throw another costume together.

Halloween Memories

In honor of Halloween week, I’m doing a walk down memory lane with some of my favorite Halloween memories. This one is based on real events as we did dress our daughter as El Seed when she was a baby, but because of sickness, we didn’t go trick-or-treating.

I didn’t clean this up so a lot of the pencil work is still visible. I was hoping to do it with just a pen but didn’t feel confident enough. I will try with tomorrow’s comic.

Summer Reading

Summer is pretty much here and so with it brings a slower pace lifestyle if only for a few months. While the girl is out of school, I do enjoy sleeping in and staying up later. But I realize that my dreams will always stay dreams unless I start putting in more work, and summer offers a great way to up my comics game by making use of the extra time gained.

I’m working on reading more in general. I have several books and comics that are piling up so aside from tackling those, I want to focus on a few drawing books that I have that sadly I haven’t finished.

Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain

This is one of the first drawing books I bought since many people recommend it. I got about halfway through and then didn’t finish it. I even bought the workbook as an incentive to finish since the sketchbook I had used for the exercises was already full from other drawings.

You Can Draw! From Pencils to Pastels in 15 Easy Lessons

This book I bought and maybe did half a lesson. So if I do one a week I will make some real progress. May have to double up some weeks to get through all the lessons by August.

Terry Moore’s How to Draw – 5 Lessons For the Serious Comic Artist

I love Terry Moore and his comics. I’ve read some of this and can’t wait to finish it.

That’s probably enough for right now. If I finish any of these I might add another one as the summer progresses. Each week I will post a report about what I’ve read and learned.

Happy Summer, Ya’ll.

Summer Plans

Summer is almost here. Just a few more weeks of school and we will be on that sweet, summer schedule.

I like to recharge in the summer. The school year grind is not only bad for the kiddo but for us poor parents who have to do so much.

This summer I plan to take a break from regular postings of comics but that doesn’t mean I am not working on new content and projects.

Comic Development

I have been thinking about switching up and doing a comic that has a story more than just the one-off comics. So to start deciding what I want to do I’m just going to develop characters. See what story they have to tell and go from there. I have my preference for the genre but really for me, it’s about the characters so I’m going to start there.

Art Practice

My art improves when I challenge myself, so I plan to spend some time during the next few months trying out different styles, drawing objects I never have, and anything else that pops in my mind or art challenges that I may come across. I do plan to post a weekly update which you will get to see some of what I have been up to.

Website Revamp

This is a big one. I use WordPress. I love WordPress so I’m planning to update the theme I am using – maybe even designing my own. It will be challenging but rewarding.

Each week I will post an update on progress on all the summer goals.
