September Goals

It’s a new month and time for new goals! For August, the only successful goal was to develop a lettering style guide. Since I’m tired of setting goals and not meeting them, I toned down the goals for September even though they are pretty lofty.

I do want to post a comic a day. My comic backlog isn’t that deep so I will have to churn out many comics this month to keep up. So drawing each day will probably be easy to accomplish. I also want to warm up for Drawlloween so drawing each day will help with that.

Once a month I want to publish a long-form comic which I am defining as more than four panels and will tell a short story or other content. It might not be a story but a list or something like that. I want to keep the content open so whatever I feel like working on will fit the category of a long-form comic.

So that’s the goal. Let’s hope for a good month.

70 is the new 50

Panel one shows Jazz and Magenta with Magenta looking down and says, "70 is the new 50." To which Jazz says, "Is that a new age thing like 40 is the new 30?" Next panel shows Magenta and Jazz and Magenta is holding a receipt and says, "No. That's the new minimum in dollars a trip to the store costs."

This is why I hate going to the store. A simple trip for milk can easily turn into an expensive proposition. One thing that has helped lately to curb this costly trend is shopping for a list.

It never fails. I always forget something from the store which means another trip is forthcoming fairly soon. With a list, I buy what I need and nothing more. The best part is not forgetting something important. So far I spend less when shopping for a list and hopefully those more expensive trips will become a thing of the past.

Man on the Moon

Magenta says to Jazz, "If we can put a man on the moon..or at least convince millions we did..Either one is very impressive."

I’m not sure how many people are still saying this when talking about something ‘impossible.’ “Well if we put a man on the moon, then why can’t they fix the pothole on our street?” This reference may be dated because we landed on the moon last century which was a while back!

My aunt never believed we landed on the moon. She just thought it was staged and never really happened. I’m sure she isn’t the only one but when I was a kid she was the only person I knew that believed that which made the idea crazy. But now I can totally see why people would believe this as it is hard to believe what you see on television.

So not sure how popular the ‘man on the moon’ comparison is these days, but here we are. I was thinking about it and had the thought that even if we didn’t go then it’s still an impressive feat to convince millions of it. Thus today’s comic was born.
